KEITH FAHNHORST (OT, 49ers 1974 - 87) anchored Sail Francisco's offensive line for the first two Super Bowl wins in franchise history. The title runs were the culmination of a long rebuilding process. "My first two years we were 2-14, but we got it turned around," Fahnhorst said. "We went from worst to best. It was a great feeling." Fahnhorst credits 49ers coach Bill Walsh for much of the turnaround. "Bill always had a way to push the right buttons," Fahnhorst said. "It drove us nuts at the time, but we came to realize that's why we were successful." The 6-foot-6. 273pound Fahnhorst played in 193 games and was voted to the 1985 Pro Bowl. The former opponent whom he holds in the highest regard is Hall of Fame defensive end Jack Youngblood. "I went against Youngblood for 12 of my 14 years," Fahnhorst said. "You could never get a good hit on him. Jack just had a way of getting in there to make plays." Fahnhorst had the pleasure of playing his last four NFL seasons with this brother, linebacker Jim Fahnhorst (49ers 1984-90). In 1981, Fahnhorst became the first recipient of the Bobb McKittrick Award, presented annually to the 49er lineman who best exemplifies the dedication, excellence and commitment of former offensive line coach, the late Bobb McKittrick. Today, Fahnhorst and his wife live in Eden Prairie, Minn., and have three daughters. He has worked as a stockbroker for Piper Jaffray since leaving the league. He has also been actively involved with the National Kidney Foundation since receiving his own kidney transplant less than two years ago.
