Dallas Cowboys History

TONY DORSETT (RB, Cowboys and Broncos 1977-88; Inducted Pro Football Hall of Fame 1994) won the 1976 Heisman Trophy and a national championship at the University of Pittsburgh. The Cowboys No. 1 draft pick, he earned NFL Rookie of the Year honors and helped the Cowboys beat the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XII. Dorsett was a 1,000-yard rusher in eight of his first nine seasons and was selected to four Pro Bowls. "I miss the family atmosphere we had on the Cowboys," he said. "Being with the guys in the locker room, the fellowship you build working and reaching a common goal, you don't get that anywhere else." Dorsett is the league's fifth all-time rusher with 12,739 yards. His most memorable play was a 99-yard touchdown run he made against the Minnesota Vikings in a 1983 Monday Night Football game. "People still come up to me and talk about that play," Dorsett said. "It was one of those events where people remember where they were when it happened." Today, Dorsett lives with his wife in Dallas. He has three daughters and a son, Anthony, who played cornerback for the Oilers/Titans and Raiders from 1996-2003. He works for a company that provides pre-cooked meals to the military and is active as a motivational speaker. The current players that most remind Dorsett of himself are the Washington Redskins' Clinton Portis "because he's not a very big guy, but he's shifty and fast" and the St. Louis Rams' Marshall Faulk, "because, like Clinton, he's what I call a home run hitter."

JAY NOVACEK (TE-WR, Cardinals and Cowboys 1985-96) lives with his wife and daughter in Brady, Neb., where he owns and operates Upper 84, a working ranch and hunting operation. Novacek joined the Cowboys in 1990 after five seasons with the Cardinals and remained with Dallas for the rest of his 11-year NFL career. A five-time Pro Bowl invitee, Novacek developed a special on-field rapport with Dallas quarterback Troy Aikman." I would run a route and look back and not be able to see Troy and he couldn't see me but he'd throw it anyway," Novacek said. "That confidence in each other was 10 times more memorable than any single play." Novacek was a member of three Cowboy Super Bowl champion teams. He played in 158 games and finished his career with 31 touchdown receptions. He named the Philadelphia Eagles as the toughest opponents he faced because "they matched up very well with us, and you knew they could beat us at any time." Dallas Cowboys Tickets
